Children are classed as dependent children under the age of eighteen years. There doesn't appear to be a limit of the number of dependent children you can insure.
At the time of policy purchase:-
The maximum duration of a single trip depends very much on your age. The maximum days of a trip is restricted to 184 for anyone up to the age of 64. This is dramatically reduced to 45 days, for anyone aged 65 - 79 and further reduced to 31 days for travellers aged between 80 and 85.
In respect of the annual trip policy, the maximum stay is 31 days in respect of the standard policy (all ages up to 74). However the double policy increases the maximum stay to 45 days for travellers up to the age of 64 and 35 days for travellers between the ages of 65 and 74.
Two important points to note are that the annual policy restricts the overall maximum period of trips to 183 days in all cases. Your policy automatically covers trips in your home country. provided you are staying for a minimum of two nights in pre booked and pre-paid accommodation.
Wintersports can be added as an optional extra to both the single trip and annual trip policies. The annual travel policy restricts the total number of days in respect of wintersports to 10 days under the standard policy and 21 days under the double policy. The maximum age for wintersports is 79.
The policy covers Ski equipment up to £400 (standard policy) £800 (double policy) with a maximum single article limit of £150 and £300 respectively. Equpiment hire of £75 and £150.
Ski Pack cover of £100 (standard) and £200 (double). The ski pack covers injury or sickness preventing you from skiing, and loss or theft of your ski pass.
Finally piste closure which covers the loss of skiing if lifts are closed due to a lack or snow, adverse conditions or potential avalanches. This is only valid between the period of 1st December to 31st March for obvious reasons. The amount covered is £100 and £200.
We don't provide quotes including winter sports, but under a single trip policy the premium doubles if you wish to be covered for wintersports.
There is no limit to the number of individuals you can insure under one policy, but there doesn't appear to be a volume discount. The individual price per person was the same for twenty travellers as it was for one traveller.
There is no definition of family in the policy booklet, but there is no limit to the number of children (who are dependent on you) that you can insure. The policy does state however that "family members can travel separately".
The carrying of an EHIC card is not mandatory with either policy, but it is strongly recommended. If you present your EHIC card during a medical expenses claim and the cost to the Insurer has been reduced as a result, the policy excess will be waived.
If you are travelling to Australia, you must enrol with a local Medicare Office straight after you first receive any treatment.
The policy provides a list of just over 100 sporting and leisure activities which are automatically covered. Things like Surfing, Scuba diving (down to a maximum depth of 30 metres), Kayaking and canoeing, boating, Ballooning and water skiing are all covered as standard.
Personal Accident and Personal Liability are excluded for some of these pursuits and these are marked with an asterisk in the policy wording. For any other enterprise that is not listed, you can phone them up and negotiate terms.
The policy excludes cover for you drinking too much alcohol where it is reasonably foreseeable that such consumption could result in a serious impairment of your faculties and/or judgement resulting in a claim. They do not expect you to avoid alcohol on your trip but will not cover any claim arising because you have drunk so much alcohol that your judgement is seriously affected and you need to make a claim as a result.
The policy automatically covers financial failure up to £750 (£1000 under the double policy). This section covers irrecoverable sums which you have paid in advance to an end supplier; for example airline, hotel, ferry or villa company, that have become insolvent.
The policy does not include cover for travel agents, tour organisers or booking agents, although these companies should be covered by their ABTA membership.
The policy excludes any claim for pregnancy which falls outside the definition of "Complications of pregnancy and Childbirth"
The policy defines this as toxaemia, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, (molar
pregnancy), post partum haemorrhage, retained placenta membrane, placental abruption, hyperemesis gravidarum, placenta praevia, stillbirths, miscarriage, medically necessary emergency caesarean section, medical necessary termination and premature births. This definition is only applicable if the complication occurs more than 8 Weeks (or 16 Weeks in the case of a known multiple pregnancy) prior to the expected delivery date.
Any Manual work is excluded under the policy, although there is no actual definition of manual work.
In respect of claims to lost or damaged property, deductions will be made for wear, tear and depreciation. Settlement is restricted to no more than £100 in total, for loss or theft of anything left unattended in a public place like a beach.
You must be able to prove ownership and the value of any item which exceeds £100.
The policy excludes claims arising out of loss or damage directly or indirectly occasioned by, happening through or in consequence of war,Terrorism, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power or confiscation or nationalisation, or requisition or destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.
This does not however apply to claims for Medical Expenses, Hospital Stay Benefit or Personal Accident.
The website states they specialise in customers with medical problems. The quotation allows you to add cover for medical conditions via their online medical screening process. Alternatively you can contact them via phone for a quotation.
You should make sure you are up to date with any vaccinations, inoculations or medications before your departure, as failure to do so could invlidate your policy in the event of a claim.
The Double policy includes automatic cover against catastrophe and travel distruption as follows:
You must be permanently resident in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man and registered with a Medical Practitioner in your home country for the policy to be valid.
