8. Can I cover more than one pet on the same policy?

You are able to insure as many pets under one policy as you want and receive a 5% discount.

9. Will the policy cover my pets pre-existing medical conditions?

All MiPet policies exclude cover for your pets pre-existing medical conditions.

MiPet defines them as "Any illness or injury or complication directly resulting from an injury or illness, whether diagnosed or un-diagnosed that has been identified or investigated by a vet or is otherwise known to you prior to the start of the insurance."

10. Will the policy cover my pet during pregnancy?

All MiPet policies exclude any treatment in connection with pregnancy or giving birth.

They also exclude any dog or cat associated with commercial breeding described as "Any pet that has had more than 2 litters in its lifetime".

11. Am I covered to take my pet abroad?

All policies extend cover allowing you to take your pet abroad for up to 30 each year. This falls under the UK's Pet Travel Scheme.

The actual levels of cover depend on the policy you choose.

12. Is there a waiting period before I am covered?

Once a pet insurance policy has been started, there is no cover for any injuries that occur within the first 24 hours and any illness that occurs within the first 14 days.

13. How much of any claim do I have to pay?

All MiPet policies carry the same fixed excess of £100. (The amount of any claim that you must pay). However you are able to increase this to £200 in exchange for a reduction in the premium.

14. Am I required to make additional monetary contributions to any claim?

Once your dog turns 6 and your cat 8 years of age, in addition to the £100 excess, you will be required to pay a further 10% of any claim.

15. Website Navigation and online shopping experience

The website is well laid out. Each policy is explained, with easy access to a comparison of benefits, some useful frequently asked questions and a copy of the policy wording and Insurance product information document.

The site benefits from live chat, although you also have the option to phone for a quote or with any queries.

Quotes are easy and you are provided with all necessary information to assist with making a decision.

16. Is the policy wording easy to understand?

The policy wording is only 13 pages long, it manages to include a full summary/comparison of cover, contents and comprehensive definitions. The layout is uninspiring but functional and the fact that it is only 13 pages long, does make it appear cramped.

This was back up by our reading test when the policy wording scored an average of 49.3 out of 100 and was classed as difficult to read, with a reading age of between 14 - 15 years of age required to be able to understand the terminology.

20. Are there any administration charges?

There are no administration charges.

21. Are there any special discounts or promotions?

Currently there are no special discounts or promotions.

22. Overall Summary

We awarded MiPet Lifetime policies £6,000 - £12,000 with a five star rating, because of the comprehensive levels of cover they provide. The co-payment clause when your dog turns 6 is 10%, which is lower than many other companies and could end up saving you money in the future, if you ever needed to make a claim.

The policy wording could be better. It's not the easiest to read. Overall the policies are competitive for the cover they provide and often feature in our best insurance pet guides for specific breeds.
