Key Points you need to know about Marsh's policy wording

1. What is the age/classification of a child on the policy?

Children are those under the age of 18, dependent and living at home (up to the age of 23 if still in full time education).

2. What are the policy age limits?

Single trip policies up to the age of 85 (at the time of purchase)

Annual travel policies up to the age of 75 (at the time of purchase)

3. What are the policy Trip Duration limits?

Single trip policies may by taken out for up to 12 months (provided you are aged 70 years or under at the date of issue)  Trip duration is restricted to a maximum of 31 days for those aged between 71 and 85.

Annual travel policies will cover any pre booked trip of up to 45 days during the policy year for those aged up to 70 years. (can be increased to 60 days with payment of an additional premium).

Pre booked trips are restricted to a maximum of 31 days for those customers aged between 71 and 75.

4. What are the options for Winter Sports cover?

The wintersports section includes cover for 14 different activities, including off piste skiing (provided it is considered safe by the ski resort). (see the policy for a list of excluded pursuits)

The policy covers ski equipment, ski hire, piste closure, and unused ski pack. 

Do not ski in closed areas. It is dangerous and cover may be invalidated. You are recommended to read the 10 international ski federation rules for the conduct of skiers.

5. What is classed as a family and how many people can be quoted for?

A policy may be taken out by a single individual, a couple (who have been living together for six months) a family comprising one or two adults and any dependent children residing at the same address.

The policy also caters for unlimited groups. There is a discount given for groups of up to ten persons on the same policy.

6. What are the policy rules on reciprocal health agreements (EHIC, Medicare)?

Customers travelling to European destinations are strongly advised to apply for and carry EHIC cards. Where a medical expense claim has been reduced by use of the card, the excess will be reduced by the amount of the saving up to the limit of the excess.

The UK also has reciprocal arrangements with Australia, New Zealand and Russia.

7. What is covered under Sports and Activities on the policy?

The policy excludes any organised sports trip or tour, whilst the insured is playing.

Marsh provide a list of 84 sports and leisure activities that are automatically included. Any other pursuit is not covered.  Check the policy for full details.

8. What are the policy Alcohol Exclusion terms?

The policy excludes any claim caused by the influence of intoxicating liquor.

9. Does the policy cover Scheduled Airline Failure or Financial Failure?

The policy includes cover for financial failure as standard up to £5,000.

10. Does the policy cover Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and can I get a quote online?

The policy excludes pre existing medical conditions with the exception of Asthma, Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholestral. These conditions are subject to certain terms and you should read the declaration carefully

Any other medical condition should be declared to the medical screening helpline. Any condition not declared will not be covered under the policy.

There is no option to declare medical conditions online.

11. What are the policy rules on travelling when pregnant?

The Marsh policy excludes cover for pregnancy in respect of any trip starting and/or finishing within eight weeks of the expected date of birth.

12. Will I be covered if I want to do Manual Work or Bar Work or other work while I am on holiday?

The policy allows customers to travel for business, but excludes manual or hazardous work of any kind. There is no definition of manual or hazardous work.

13. What are the requirements, if I need to claim for lost, damaged or stolen baggage?

No specific information is provided in respect of baggage claims, however the policy states generally for all claims, that they must be substantiated by original receipts, and or valuations as applicable.

14. What does the policy cover in the event of war, terrorism or cyber attack?

Claims related to war listed under the general policy exclusions, but terrorism is not mentioned.

15. Does the policy cover natural disaster or catastrophe before and during my holiday?

The policy covers catastrophe up to £500

16. Do I have to be a UK resident to be covered under this policy?

Yes, you must be resident in the United Kingdom or Channel Islands with an address and registered with a doctor.
