Key Points you need to know about Makesure Travel Insurance's policy wording

1. What is the age/classification of a child on the policy?

Your dependents who are under the age of 18 and in full time education

2. What are the policy age limits?

At date of travel:-

99 or under for Single Trip

99 or under for Multi Trip

3. What are the policy Trip Duration limits?

Trip duration for Single Trip Policies is up to 365 days.

For Annual/Multi Trip, the maximum duration per trip is 31 days (with no limit on the number of trips).

4. What are the options for Winter Sports cover?

Winter Sports can be added for up to 17 days per policy, subject to an age limit of 71 years at date of travel.

There is no list of acceptable winter sports activities, only what isn't covered, which includes off-piste skiing unless under the supervision of a qualified guide or instructor, ski jumping, mono skiing, ice hockey, the use of skeletons or bobsleighs.

We assume that all other activities are covered, but would recommend confirmation in writing from the Insurer.

5. What is classed as a family and how many people can be quoted for?

Policies are for one person, couples, families (including single parent families) and groups of up to 9 people, although there is no group discount for insuring more than one person.

Family cover applies to you and your husband/wife, civil partner, or common law partner (whether you and they are the same or different sex) plus up to four unmarried dependent children of either of you, under the age of 18 years in full time education. Adults travelling under this policy may travel independently. Your unmarried dependent children are only covered when travelling with an adult insured under this policy.

6. What are the policy rules on reciprocal health agreements (EHIC, Medicare)?

EHIC mandatory if travelling to the EU.  If you are travelling to Australasia you should contact Assistance International if you are admitted to hospital.

7. What is covered under Sports and Activities on the policy?

The Maksure policy does not provide a list of acceptable or automatically included activities. Instead it details what is excluded.

"Professional or organised sports, racing, speed or endurance tests, scuba diving to a depth of more than 30 metres, or without a qualified instructor, mountaineering, pot-holing or rock climibing where you would normally use picks, ropes or guides.

We must assume that all other activities are acceptable, although the exclusions are normally those that other Insurers would list as High Risk or Hazardous activities.

It is important that you check the list of activities excluded, before purchasing your travel insurance to ensure you are covered. We would recommend checking with the Insurer to make sure any activity you wish to do is covered and it’s a good tip to gain approval in writing.

8. What are the policy Alcohol Exclusion terms?

Policy states the Insurer shall not cover you for claims arising directly or indirectly from your suicide or attempted suicide, deliberately injuring yourself, being under the influence of alcohol or drugs (unless prescribed by a medical practitioner), alcoholism, drug addiction, solvent abuse, wilful exposure to exceptional risk (unless you are trying to save someone’s life.

9. Does the policy cover Scheduled Airline Failure or Financial Failure?

Covered for End Supplier for up to £2000.

10. Does the policy cover Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and can I get a quote online?

Over 5000 pre-existing medical conditions can be covered, provided that these are declared and accepted in writing by the Insurance Provider.  It is important that you disclose all medical conditions during the online Medical Screening process.

We would recommend you get written approval and acceptance for your medical condition prior to agreeing to take out any policy.

You are not covered in the event of a failure to obtain any recommended vaccines, inoculations or medications prior to your trip departure.

11. What are the policy rules on travelling when pregnant?

Pregnancy is not a medical condition, so you are able to travel until you are quite late into your pregnancy. Airlines and ferry/shipping companies including cruise liners have their own restrictions due to health and safety requirements.  You should check with them or any other mode of transport you propose to take before you book.  Please make sure your Doctor and Midwife are aware of your travel plans as this policy will not cover you if you travel against medical advice. You must also refer to the Medical Health Requirements section on Page 5 of the policy document as you may need to declare any known complications.

12. Will I be covered if I want to do Manual Work or Bar Work or other work while I am on holiday?

Manual Work is excluded, (except for working in a bar, nursing or fruit picking which does not involve the use of heavy machinery)

We would recommend that anyone planning to work obtains written permission from their Insurance Provider that it is covered under their policy.

13. What are the requirements, if I need to claim for lost, damaged or stolen baggage?

In all circumstances, receipts will be necessary in the event of a claim.

We strongly recommend that it would be sensible to keep receipts of any new clothes/property purchased for your holiday; and additionally, any valuation for items that are of value, but you don’t have an original receipt. If in doubt as to whether you have cover for a specific item, please contact the Insurance Provider for clarification prior to taking out insurance.

14. What does the policy cover in the event of war, terrorism or cyber attack?

You are not covered in respect of claims arising directly or indirectly from an act of Terrorism. This exclusion does not apply to Section 5 Personal Accident, Section 6 Medical Emergency Expenses or Section 7 Medical Inconvenience Benefit, provided that the Insured Person suffering Personal Accident injury or illness has not participated in or conspired in such activities.
