Campbell Irvine Ltd is an independent, privately-owned company and have been trading since 1973, providing travel insurance schemes for large travel agents and tour operators, as well as running a travel insurance scheme in their own name.

Key Points you need to know about Leisurecare Insurance Services's policy wording

1. What is the age/classification of a child on the policy?

Your dependents who are under the age of 19 (or under 21 and in full time education).

2. What are the policy age limits?

At time of purchase:-

Under 68 in respect of the Leisurecare standard single trip and annual trip policy.

Under 86 in respect of the single trip travellers choice policy (travelling to Europe).

Under the age of 76 in respect of all other single trip policies and the annual multi trip policy.

3. What are the policy Trip Duration limits?

Trip Durations for Single Trip - 6 months, For Annual/Multi Trips up to 31 days per trip.

4. What are the options for Winter Sports cover?

Winter Sports cover is provided only if You are under 70 and have paid the premium required. If You have purchased an Annual Multi-Trip policy and paid the appropriate additional premium You will be covered for winter sports up to 17 days during the policy year.

The policy covers the following winter sports activities, cross country skiing, snowboarding, mono skiing, skiing, snow sledging, skidooing and sleigh rides. Off piste skiing and snowboarding is allowed, as long as you are skiing within marked boundaries provided for public use and not in areas marked out of bounds.

Tobogganing and snowmobiling are allowed but cover is restricted to Medical Expenses and Personal Accident only and there is no cover for bodily injury if you use a sledge, skiddo or powered winter sport vehicle of any kind.

5. What is classed as a family and how many people can be quoted for?

A policy can be taken out by just one person or a group of individuals (there appears to be no limit on the number you can insure, although there is no volume premium discount available)

Policies are also available for couples, single parent families/families and their children.

6. What are the policy rules on reciprocal health agreements (EHIC, Medicare)?

EHIC mandatory if travelling to the EU. When You are travelling to Australia and You have to go to hospital, You must register for and make use of the treatment offered under the national Medicare scheme.

7. What is covered under Sports and Activities on the policy?

Sports and Activities are split into Grades 1 to 4, Grades 1 & 2 (over 80 activites) are included in the policy as standard, Grade 3 requires a 100% loading on the premium (so it will cost twice as much). Grade 4 requires a 200% loading on the premium.  On Grade 3 to 4 activities, Medical excess is increased to £320 and Personal Accident sums insured by 50%. Personal Liability is excluded.

Pursuits like White water rafting (up to grade 4), jet skiing and Scuba diving (down to 50 metres providing you are suitably qualified) are automatically covered.

It is important that you check the list of activities before purchasing your travel insurance to ensure you are covered.  If you are unsure, it’s a good tip to gain approval in writing from your insurance provider.

8. What are the policy Alcohol Exclusion terms?

Claims caused by you being under the influence of intoxicating liquor, or wilful, malicious or unlawful acts whilst under the influence of alcohol are not covered.

9. Does the policy cover Scheduled Airline Failure or Financial Failure?

Covered for End Supplier Failure under both the Travel Choice and Leisurecare Policies up to £2000.

10. Does the policy cover Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and can I get a quote online?

Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded under this policy unless these are disclosed to the insurer and you have only ONE medical condition that is detailed on the list of acceptable conditions, which are Arthiritus, Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypercholesterolaemia, Hypertension, Hypotension, Osteoporosis.  You must have had no hospital admissions within the last 12 months.

Medical conditions may be included, but you need to contact their medical screening helpline to find out. We would recommend you get written approval and acceptance for your medical condition prior to agreeing to take out any policy.

You are not covered in the event of a failure to obtain any recommended vaccines, inoculations or medications prior to your trip departure.

11. What are the policy rules on travelling when pregnant?

No specific conditions applied in relation to pregnancy, if you are pregnant and travelling, please contact the Insurance Provider.

12. Will I be covered if I want to do Manual Work or Bar Work or other work while I am on holiday?

Manual Work is excluded, except in the following circumstances. (bar and restaurant, waitress, waiter, chalet maids, au pair, nanny’s, occasional light manual work including retail work and fruit picking but excluding the use of power tools and machinery). Non Manual Work (including professional, administrative or clerical duties only).

The policy defines Manual Work as “Physical labour involving the use of tools or machinery or exposure to risk that could give rise to Your bodily injury or illness (nursing and bar-work are not considered to be manual work).”

We would recommend that anyone planning to work obtains written permission from their Insurance Provider that it is covered under their policy.

13. What are the requirements, if I need to claim for lost, damaged or stolen baggage?

In all circumstances, you must retain receipts or vouchers for Items lost or damaged as these will help to substantiate your claim. In the case of lost or misplaced Personal Possessions on the outward Journey, you must produce receipts for the purchase of essential replacement items.

We strongly recommend keeping receipts of any new clothes/property purchased for your holiday; and additionally, any valuation for items that are of value, but you don’t have an original receipt.

If in doubt as to whether you have cover for a specific item, please contact the Insurance Provider for clarification prior to taking out insurance.

14. What does the policy cover in the event of war, terrorism or cyber attack?

You are not covered in respect of claims arising directly or indirectly from an act of Terrorism. This exclusion does not apply to Section B Emergency Medical and Other Expenses except for any claims which are in any way caused or contributed by an act of Terrorism involving the use or release or the threat thereof of any nuclear weapon or device or chemical or biological agent.

15. Does the policy cover natural disaster or catastrophe before and during my holiday?

Covered under both the Travel Choice and Leisurecare Policies up to £1000.

16. Do I have to be a UK resident to be covered under this policy?

This policy is only available to you if You / Your / Insured Person - Any person named on the validation certificate who is a permanent resident in the United Kingdom or Channel Isles/Isle of Man; and who has been present in the United Kingdom or Channel Isles/Isle of Man for at least six months prior to purchasing the policy; and who is registered with a medical practitioner in the area in which they reside; and who has paid the appropriate premium.
