Free Spirit Travel Insurance in the online trading name of P J Hayman and Company aspecialist Travel Insurance and Schemes provider founded in 1990. Their website states they are one of the first companies to be able to offer travel insurance to customers with medical conditions. The policies are underwritten by Amtrust Europe Ltd. Authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and Regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority).

Important Information on Free Spirit Travel Insurance's Policy Wording

What is age/classification of Child?

Your children, under the age of 18 on the date you purchase your policy, must travel with an adult, insured under this policy.

Age Limits?

At time of purchase:-

Single Trip Policies: no upper age limit

Annual Multi-Trip policies: no upper age limit

Single Trip, Trip Duration is a maximum of 94 days, restricted to 45 days if you are aged 76 or over.

Annual Trip, Trip Duration ? per trip is 31 days on Super Cover, this can be extended to 45 days on Super Duper Cover

Winter Sports Cover can be included on policy with payment of the appropriate additional premium. 

No of persons covered, family/ group?

Group up to 10 people.

Family means parents or grandparents (up to a maximum of two adults) and their children or grandchildren.

Reciprocal Health Agreements

EHIC mandatory if travelling to the EU. If you are travelling to Australia you must register with Medicare on arrival.

Sporting Activities, what’s included?

Check the policy schedule, there are over 70 activities listed and included as standard.

It is important that you check the list of activities before purchasing your travel insurance to ensure you are covered.  If you are unsure, it’s a good tip to gain approval in writing from your insurance provider.

Alcohol Exclusion, Terms?

Policy states “You, your travelling companion, close relative or business associate being under the influence of:-  drugs (except those prescribed by your registered doctor but not when prescribed for treatment of drug addiction); alcohol (a blood alcohol level that exceeds 0.19%  approximately four pints or four 175ml glasses of wine); solvents, or;  anything relating to you or your close relatives or business associate prior abuse of alcohol or solvents.

Available on the Super Duper Policy only

Medical Conditions, Exclusions, Vaccinations?

Online Medical screening is available for any pre-existing medical conditions, saving you the time and hassle of having to phone up, or take a policy that excludes conditions.

Any pre-existing medical condition that has not been declared and accepted in writing by the insurer will not be covered.

Travelling while Pregnant?

Policy States “Our policies include emergency medical expenses cover for pregnancy and childbirth from week 0 to week 28 inclusive whilst you are away. From the start of week 29 to week 40 of the pregnancy, there is no cover for claims relating to normal pregnancy and normal childbirth or cancellation, however, medical expenses and cancellation cover will be provided if any of the following complications arise: Toxaemia, Gestational hypertension, Ectopic pregnancy, Post-partum haemorrhage, Pre-eclampsia, Molar pregnancy or hydatidiform mole, Retained placenta membrane, Placental abruption, Hyperemesis gravidarum, Placenta praevia, Stillbirth, Miscarriage, Emergency Caesarean, A termination needed for medical reasons, Premature birth more than 12 weeks (or 16 weeks if you know you are having more than one baby) before the expected delivery date.”

Working while away?

Listed under activities - Manual Labour is excluded except for those listed in included activities ? e.g Bar Work, Animal Sanctuary (non big game). If your plan is for specific work, it is always best to contact the insurance provider and obtain written acceptance that your planned type of work is allowed under the policy.

Possessions, Proof of Ownership?

Receipts are required in the event of a claim for lost or delayed items.

It would be sensible to keep receipts of any new clothes/property purchased for your holiday. If in doubt as to whether you have cover for a specific item, please contact the Insurance Provider for clarification prior to taking out insurance.

Cyber Attack, Terrorism

Claims relating to cyber events are excluded. Terrorism is also excluded In respect of all sections other than emergency medical expenses, war, terrorism, biological or chemical warfare, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities (whether war has been declared or not), civil  war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection or military or usurped power.

You and all other insured persons must be a resident of the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or British Forces Posted Overseas.
