Avanti Insurance Ltd are based in Braintree Essex. This award winning company started in 1996, with the ethos of putting the customer first, they specialise in travel insurance for the over 50's and those with pre-existing medical problems.
According to the website, all medical conditions will be considered, including things like Leukaemia and HIV and there is no upper age limit. Single trip policies can be taken out for up to 550 days and the deluxe policy benefits from unlimited medical expenses cover and has been awarded a highly recommended four star policy by us.

A child is considered to be a person under the age of nineteen or under the age of 23, provided they are in full time education.
The Avanti single trip and multi trip policies provide cover with no age limit or restriction.
Whilst the age limit under a single trip policy is unlimited, there are age restrictions on the trip duration.
Single trip policies: up to twelve months provided you are under the age of 71. This is reduced to 90 days if you are aged between 71 and 75 (120 days if you are only travelling to Australia or New Zealand only. The trip duration is further reduced to 31 days if you are aged 76 and above.
Multi Trip policies: The policy allows for an unlimited number of trips throughout the policy year, but each trip is limited to 31 days (up to the age of 75). For anyone over the age of 75 this is reduced to 24 days.
There is however an option to increase these limits. 45 days per trip for anyone aged between 71 - 75 (provided travel is not to USA, Canada or the Caribbean. 45 or 60 days per trip for anyone aged up to 70. These will require the payment of an additional premium.
Wintersports can be included for anyone up to the age of 70, but is restricted to 17 days for each policy year under the multi trip policy.
The additional of the wintersports section provides cover for the following activities: Big foot skiing, Cross country skiing (recognised paths), Glacier skiing, Heli-skiing/-boarding, Langlauf, Mono-skiing, Off-piste skiing (with a professional guide on designated pistes within the resort), Skidoo, Skiing, Ski touring, Sledging, Snowboarding, Snow mobiling, Snow shoeing, Snowcat skiing and Tobogganing.

All three levels cover owned equipment up to £1,000, with a single article limit of £250, the winter sports pack up to £75 per day total £300, piste closure £20 per day up to £260, avalanche delay up to £250 and the hire of equipment of £20 per day up to £300 (essential and classic) and £50 per day up to £500 (deluxe). All three policies also cover search and rescue up to £10,000 and physiotherapy up to £200.
The cost to cover a seven day trip to Austria including wintersports for an adult aged 35 would be £37.30 Essential cover £41.63 Classic and £65.88 Deluxe.
The Avanti policy can be taken out by up to nine individuals, couples, described as a person, their husband, wife or partner, as long as they have lived together for a minimum of six months. Families, a single adult or couple and up to four dependent children.
Children are only covered when travelling with one of the insured adults.
Avanti do not insist on an EHIC card, if you are travelling to a European Country, but recommend that you apply for one before you go. If you need to make a claim and use the EHIC card, Avanti will not apply the excess in respect of the Medical Expenses section.
In respect of travel to Australia, you should enrol with Medicare.
Avanti provide a list of over 80 activities and pursuits, that they will automatically cover. The list is fairly comprehensive and covers things like, Surfing, Trekking up to 4000 metres, water skiing, windsurfing and more unusually the Sydney Harbour Bridge walk. Important note. Scuba Diving is not included in the list of acceptable activities. We would recommend contacting Avanti, if you wish this or any other activity not specifically mentioned to be covered.
The policy excludes any claim arising from you being under the influence of drink.
Yes the policy does provide cover for both scheduled airline failure and end supplier failure, but only in respect of the classic and deluxe policies.
Yes the policy does provide cover for existing conditions. You must also declare any medical condition on your travel insurance, which you have suffered or received medical advice on or treatment in the last five years.
Pre existing conditions can be quoted for by completing the easy to use online medical screening facility.
Important note. In respect of any medical expenses which are sustained in the United States of America, Avanti will only pay reasonable costs, observing the negotiated rate with the provider of the medical care.
If a negotiated rate does not exist, the maximum amount that will be paid is 150% of published USA Medicare rates. Read our Guide on the rules of taking medicine abroad with you.
It depends on the work you intend to do. If the work is physical, for example construction, installation, assembly or building work, then you will not be covered. If you intend to work in a bar or restaurant, or as a musician or singer, this would be covered under the polciy. Fruit pickers are also covered as long as you don't use machinery.

The policy is not specific, but we would assume that proof of ownership or a receipt will be required to substantiate any claim
War, Invasion, acts of foreign enemies and Terrorism are in the list of general exclusions.
However in the event of war, you would still be covered for any claims relating Medical Expenses, personal accident and Medical Inconvenience Benefit.
In respect of Terrorism you are covered for all sections of the policy except cancellation, personal liability, Mugging, Legal expenses and withdrawal of services.
This is unusually wide cover for these types of circumstances.
Normal pregnancy is not covered under any of the Avanti policies, unless it falls under the description of complication of pregnancy.
Complications of pregnancy are described in the policy as Toxaemia, gestational hyper tension, pre-eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole (molar pregnancy), post-partum haemorrhage, retained placenta membrane, placental abruption, hyperemesis gravidarum, placenta praevia, stillbir ths, miscarriage, medically necessary emergency Caesarean section, medically necessary termination and any premature births more than 8 (eight) weeks (or 16 (sixteen) weeks in the case of a known multiple pregnancy) prior to the expected delivery date.
However if you need to cancel your holiday, because you discovered your pregnancy after the inception of the policy and your return date is within 12 weeks of your delivery date (16 weeks for twins), you would be covered under the cancellation section of the policy.
Yes but only if you opt for classis or deluxe cover, which provides up to £500 or £750 respectively, to cover additional accommodation or assistance with repatriation, in the event of a natural disaster or catastrophe.
Important Note: The deluxe policy also covers delayed departure in the event of an Ash Cloud.
Yes you must be a UK resident and have lived in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands for at least six out of the last twelve months.
