Single Trip Travel Insurance: age limit is 79
Annual Travel Insurance: age limit is 65
A single trip can be taken out for up to 365 days, unless you plan visiting Canada, USA or the Carribean which is restricted to 105 days.
The annual travel policy allows for unlimited trips with each trip lasting no more than 31 days. This can be extended to 45 or 60 days with payment of the relevant additional premium.
Wintersports can be included on both the single and annual trip policies, however the annual trip policy limits you to 17 days wintersports cover in each period of insurance. The age limit for wintersports cover is 65.
Wintersports covers the following: Guided cross country skiing (Nordic skiing), glacier skiing, recreational racing, snowmobiling, mono skiing, off piste skiing or snowboarding only when accompanied by a locally qualified guide, on piste skiing, on piste snowboarding, and snow sledging. Everything is not covered.
The policy covers Ski equipment upto £500, Ski Pack upto £75 per day max £300, Lift Pass £250, Ski Equipment delay £20 per day upto £300, Piste Closure £20 per day up to £200 and Avalanche up to £200.
Family cover means, one or two parents, or one or two grandparents and up to 4 children or grandchidlren. Children or grandchildren include your own children, fostered or adopted children, or children who are unrelated friends or relatives, travelling under the guardianship of the parents or grandparents.
Under the annual multrip policy, only adults may travel independently.
The policy strongly advises you to obtain an EHIC card, if you plan on travelling to any EU destination. If any claim is reduced by more than the excess because you have used the EHIC card, then the excess will be waived.
If you are travelling to Australia, you must enrol with the nearest MEDICARE centre, either on arrival or after you first receive any treatment.
The Atlas Travel Insurance UK policy, splits activities into four grades. Grade 1 lists 70 sporting activities that are automatically included free of charge, things like Kayaking, snorkelling and windsurfing.
Grade 2 pursuits, can be included but require payments of an additional premium and increased medical excess, personal accident reduced by 50% and no personal liability cover, for example Bungee jumping or Go-Karting
Grade three activities also involve payment of an additional premium an increased medical excess of £500, reduced personal accident and personal liability exclusion, for example Flying a private aircraft, mountain biking, or Yachting.
Grade 4 have the same terms as grade 3 past times, but require a larger additional premium, for example canyoning, or rock climbing under 2000m.
The Atlas Travel Insurance policy wording excludes any claim in respect of your excessive consumption of alcohol, your alcohol intake whilst taking any combination of medication or drugs known (or would reasonably be suspected) to cause drowsiness, impaired vision or judgment when combined with alcohol, whether such drugs are prescribed or not.
None of the Atlas Travel policies provide cover in respect of Scheduled Airline Failure or End Supplier Failure.
The Atlas policy as a very small list of acceptable medical conditions, which are automatically covered (provided you only have one). Any other medical condition is excluded under the policy, unless you have contacted them on the following phone number 0203 829 6652 and they have agreed to provide cover in writing.

The policy provides cover in respect of Medical Emergency and cancellation for complications as a direct result of pregnancy.

The policy wording states that Manual Work is excluded in connection with any business, profession or trade. However the following work is automatically included under the Grade 1sports and activities section:
Bar and restaurant, waitress, waiter, chalet-maids, au pair and nanny’s and occasional light manual work including retail work and fruit picking but excluding the use of power tools and machinery, non manual work, which include professional, administrative or clerical duties only.
The policy makes a deduction for wear, tear and depreciation on any claim for lost, stolen or damaged possessions.
It also states you must provide an original receipt and or some form of proof of ownership for any items you are claiming for to assist with substantiating your claim.
As with a large number of policies, terrorism is not covered, except in relation to a claim for medical expenses, hospital benefit or personal accident, unless the attack was nuclear, biological or chemical.
The Atlas policy does provide automatic cover of up to £500 to assist with additional or replacement accommodation, or returning home, in the event of a catastrophe, described as fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, storm, tempest, hurricane, flood, medical epidemic or local government directive.
