2. What do horse insurance vet fees cover?

Petplan Equine offer a choice of two standard horse insurance policies and a veteran policy.

The second policy covers vet fees cover up to £5,000 per incident to treat any injury or illness.

The veteran policy covers vet fees up to £1,000 per incident in the event of injury only.

Any claim will end after 12 months from the date the incident occurred or once the benefit limit has been reached, whichever comes first.

3. What's not covered?

Many customer issues with insurance are as a result of a claim being declined or a settlement amount less than the customer was expecting. Not all, but a significant number of these issues are caused as a result of the customer either not reading the policy wording, or understanding the meanings of the terms and conditions that have been applied to the policy.

It is important that you read the policy wording carefully to understand what is and isn't covered. We appreciate that not all policy wordings are easy to understand and horse insurance is no exception. To help you with this we have highlighted some of the important exclusions.

Petplan Equine do not cover;

  1. The cost of any vaccination, castration and the removal of wolf teeth, other than the cost of treating any complications caused by these procedures.
  2. Any cost relating to stabling, grazing, feeding or any changes in the way you look after your horse.
  3. Additional costs for treating your horse outside usual veterinary practice hours, unless the vet confirms an emergency consultation is essential, regardless of your personal circumstances.
